Decorated Ceramics
Vessels containing decoration were relatively abundant in this assemblage, being present on 30 of the 50 that have been cataloged. Types of decoration include 4 that are transfer-print, including a set of 2 cups with a cobalt blue Far East/Oriental landscape design (catalog #39 and #40). One other vessel features an architectural design in cobalt blue, and 1 bowl has a printed floral pattern around the edge in green. Other decorative types include 1 flow blue vessel, several with decals, hand-painted designs, especially in sprig floral patterns, and some decoration and embossing around the edge. One of the more common decorations in this assemblage is the application of gold gilding either as a thin band around the rim, in sprig floral patterns, or as accents to other hand-painted designs, being present on 12 of the 30 decorated ceramics. A total of 5 of those with gold gilding are made of porcelain, which comprises 16 of the 50 total vessels, and 7 are whiteware vessels.
